Lorraine Ernest

Acclaimed by critics for her portrayal as Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute in opera houses throughout the United States and Europe, Peter G. Davis of The New York Magazine writes, “Lorraine Ernest brought down the house with her spectacular arias.” Ms. Ernest has performed this signature role in numerous venues around the world, including repeated seasons with New York City Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Washington National Opera, The Denver Symphony Orchestra under the distinguished baton of Marin Alsop, Opera Grand Rapids, Palm Beach Opera, Central City Opera and the Volks Opera of Vienna. 

Other roles in Ms. Ernest’s repertoire include a debut with The Opera Company of Philadelphia as Elvira in L’Italiana in Algeri and her Carnegie Hall debut performing the role of Mademoiselle Jouvenot in Opera Orchestra of New York’s concert-version of Adriana Lecouvreur. She has also performed the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Susanna in
Le
Nozze di Figaro, the title role in Lakme, Olympia and Antonia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare, Musetta in La Boheme, as well as her debut with Los Angeles Opera as Princess Tatishchev alongside Placido Domingo in Nicholas and Alexandra. In 2006, Ms. Ernest returned to Washington National Opera as Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, and in 2007 reprised the role with Kansas City Lyric Opera. She recently sang Lucia with Coro Lirico and last season sang her first Violetta in La Traviata with Boheme Opera New Jersey. Her exciting Boheme Opera NJ appearances have included Musetta in La Boheme, Adina in The Elixir of Love, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor and Violetta in La Traviata. Lorraine is currentlyteaching at Montclair State University’s Cali School of Music.
